Aliens of the Deep — Walden Media Partners with Leading Scientists for Aliens of the Deep
Walden Media has formed partnerships with two leading scientific organizations to help communicate the educational messages in Aliens of the Deep: NASA's Astrobiology Institute and Ridge 2000, a National Science Foundation-backed consortium of the nation's leading hydrothermal vent researchers.
NASA Astrobiology Institute carries out collaborative research and education in astrobiology, the interdisciplinary science that seeks answers to fundamental questions such as: "Is there life elsewhere in the Universe?" It supports investigation of these issues on Earth and serves as a portal to space for the scientific community. NAI's collaboration has been instrumental throughout the production of Aliens of the Deep. NAI scientists participated in the expedition, and NAI's Education and Public Outreach Office has generously contributed educational material and expertise as we have developed our educational program. NASA Astrobiology Institute researchers have agreed to further support outreach efforts by visiting cities where the film is being shown, and giving audiences first-hand insight into their exciting work.

Ridge 2000 is an interdisciplinary initiative to study the Earth's oceanic spreading ridge system as an integrated whole, from its inception in the mantle to its manifestations in the biosphere and water column. The Ridge 2000 program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Like NASA's Astrobiology Institute, Ridge 2000 has been a crucial partner in both the production of Aliens of the Deep and in the orchestration of the film's educational outreach program. Ridge 2000 scientists were part of the expedition, and have volunteered to visit theaters across the country to help underscore the film's messages of exploration and adventure by recounting their own real-life experiences while diving in the deep ocean.
