Around the World in 80 Days — The Story
On a daring wager with his friends at the Reform Club, English gentleman Phileas Fogg bets his fortune that he can successfully travel around the world in eighty days. With his loyal and recently-hired servant Passepartout, he embarks on his great adventure. Within a matter of days, London itself is caught up in the fantastic nature of Fogg's attempt, whose endeavor is full of the unexpected and is met with obstacles of all kinds. He must rely on creative decisions as he and Passepartout wade through misunderstandings and changing timelines in their dramatic eighty days race that passes through Brindisi, Suez, Calcutta, Hong Kong, Yokohama, San Francisco and New York.
Published originally in 1872, Around the World in Eighty Days was Jules Verne's most popular novel. It inspired a number of films and stage versions during his lifetime.
