The Chronicles of Narnia : The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe — About the Film
When we created Walden Media, there was one work we deeply wanted to develop as a film: C. S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia. We felt most fortunate when we were able to secure the rights, and partner with the Walt Disney Company on the film's release.
The film marked the first live-action directorial effort for the New Zealander Andrew Adamson (director of the Oscar®-winning Shrek and Shrek 2), who also co-wrote the screenplay adaptation with Emmy Award-winner Anne Peacock (HBO's A Lesson Before Dying) and Emmy Award-winning scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (HBO's The Life and Death of Peter Sellers). The film was produced by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Mark Johnson (Rain Man).
Walden Media developed a series of educational activities and tools to spark children's interest in reading the book, and to highlight the creativity of C.S. Lewis - and the talented team behind the film.
With our goal of fostering literacy, we were gratified to learn that sales of C. S. Lewis' books increased markedly after the release of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
