Aliens of the Deep — About the Film
Academy Award-winning director James Cameron combines his talents as a filmmaker with his passion for ocean and space exploration in Aliens of the Deep, an Earthship Production presented in IMAX® 3D by Walden Media and Walt Disney Pictures. Aliens of the Deep presents the highlights of more than 40 dives made to the Mid-Ocean Ridge, a submerged chain of mountains that winds 46,000 miles around the globe and contains mineral-rich volcanic vents with names like Lost City and Snake Pit. These vents spew constant clouds of super-heated water, made dark as smoke by substances sent up from deep beneath the earth's crust.
Innovative, daredevil filmmaking, an exciting partnership with NASA, engaging educational materials, interactive web adventures, and a National Geographic companion book make Aliens of the Deep a truly immersive, multi-media experience. Our Educator's Guide helps students examine the concepts presented in the film more thoroughly, from the different scientists involved in the exploration to the elements required for life. These activities coupled with the film will help inspire students to become explorers in their own right.
