Josh Hutcherson has signed on to star opposite Brendan Fraser in Walden Media and New Line Cinema's "Journey 3-D." The movie, being directed by Eric Brevig and produced by Charlotte Huggins, will be a contemporary update in 3-D of Jules Verne classic science fiction novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth."
The story revolves around a scientist (Fraser) and his troubled nephew (Hutcherson) on an expedition in Iceland who stumble upon a mystery that leads them on a thrill-ride adventure, bringing them face to face with never-before-seen worlds and creatures beneath Earth's surface.
Fraser is exec producing. Shooting starts June 10 in Montreal.
Cale Boyter and Michael Disco are overseeing the project for New Line, and Alex Schwartz and Evan Turner are shepherding for Walden.
Hutcherson is onscreen in "RV"; his other credits include "Zathura" and "Little Manhattan." He recently wrapped production on Walden Media and the Walt Disney Co.'s "Bridge to Terabithia."
Hutcherson is repped by ICM and the Beddingfield Co.
