Dwayne Johnson and Julie Andrews, stars of the new film TOOTH FAIRY, discuss the importance of having dreams with Parade Magazine and Entertainment News Wire.
Johnson tells with Parade:
“The power of dreams.
“In the beginning, my character is a dream killer, he doesn’t believe in the possibility of dreams or the power that dreams can have. Not only that, he doesn’t understand the impact as an adult that he has on children’s lives. I’ve always realized that whether you have kids or not, as adults we’re all connected in some way to children and we have a power to influence them—just make sure that they understand their own potential and how important dreams are.”
What keeps him believing.
“Gratitude. I’m really, really grateful for where I am. By the numbers and the odds, considering my past, the environment I was raised in, the trouble I got into, I probably shouldn’t be here talking to you now about doing great movies. Yet, here we are talking about delivering messages of empowerment to kids. That’s why I’m a grateful man and I think it’s gratitude that helps me. I always believe there’s power in that.”
Pink tutu memories.
“There were like 500 extras on the set the day I wore it. It was the very first day of filming and I was arriving in fairyland. So, there I was in my pink tutu and size 14 ballet slippers. It wasn’t so bad until I realized that I was doing my first scene with my co-star Julie Andrews, who I was meeting for the first time. But, she was very gracious. I think she may even have complimented me on how well my tutu fit. My philosophy is, it’s always very rewarding when you can make an audience laugh. I don’t mind making fun of myself. I like self-deprecating comedy. But, I’d like you to laugh with me occasionally, too.””

Julie Andrews also reiterated Johnson’s point about dreams when she spoke with Entertainment News Wire:
“Andrews plays Lily, the no-nonsense matriarch of Fairyland, who sentences Derek to two weeks of hard time as a tooth fairy despite his protests. She runs the magical land like a CEO, and even a rough and tumble hockey player is no match for her. She will accept nothing but a full commitment from Derek, or he will have to continue his tooth collecting assignment indefinitely.
Andrew relished playing the tough-as-nails fairy boss.
“I loved it,” she says, clasping her perfectly manicured hands together. “I mean, it’s hard to tell this big guy off, you know.”
She also enjoyed the script’s charm and was thrilled with its uplifting message that dreams shouldn’t be destroyed.
“That’s the message I attempt to convey in my own books,” she says, referring to the popular series of children’s books she writes with her daughter, Emma.
Johnson, 37, was pleased to have an opportunity to work with the legendary performer, though their first meeting couldn’t have been more awkward.
“The first day I saw Julie I was in a tutu,” recalls the tall and muscular actor.
“He was pretty in pink, I have to say,” responds the actress, sitting alongside her co-star.”
