Thank You Notes for Kids

We’ve hit the home stretch – Hannukah is over, Christmas is a few short days away, New Year’s Eve is practically in sight.

Now’s the perfect time to begin thinking about Thank You Notes.

Teaching your child to send a thank you note at an early age helps him develop great manners for life.

Even a child’s first reaction to a gift presents an opportunity to teach manners. As Martha Stewart.com suggests: “Not all the gifts your child receives will be hits. Explain to him ahead of time that the gift giver’s thoughtfulness should be appreciated all the same.

“Suggest specific things to say when he opens the present. For example, he can mention something that he does like about the item, such as “Red is my favorite color!” Let him know that a simple but enthusiastic “thank you” will be fine, too.”

After the holidays, turn thank you notes into a fun craft. Encourage your children to create their own personalized note cards using the ideas below – or create your own.

MarthaStewart.com continues: “Even young children can (and should) send proper thank-you notes. Have a toddler pose for a photo while using or wearing the gift. As kids begin to write, encourage them to pen “thank you” on a card or a note you’ve written. You can also have kids draw pictures of themselves enjoying their gifts, or add doodles to an envelope.”

Older kids can write their own notes – suggest that your child writes what he likes about the gift or how he hopes to use it.
