“When I was young, Titanic was a legend, a myth. It wasn’t until I saw it with my own eyes that it became real. It was a real event that happened to real people.”
– James Cameron, Director
As we remember the 98th anniversary of Titanic’s terrible tragedy, James Cameron’s words ring especially true. While there have been other catastrophic tragedies since, the Titanic remains ingrained in the hearts and minds of history. Honor the memory and the history of the great ship with James Cameron’s 2003 documentary Ghosts of the Abyss.
In Ghosts of the Abyss, Cameron led an international crew on a ground-breaking expedition to the wreck of Titanic. Through the use of 3D technology and pioneering underwater equipment, Cameron explored the ship in a way never thought possible.
The resulting film is a powerful documentary look into one of the greatest tragedies of our time.
Ghosts of the Abyss is also an excellent tool to use in the classroom study the Titanic and those who lost their lives there.
