Space Shuttle Challenger
Twenty-four years ago today the space shuttle Challenger and its crew of seven men and women launched into a clear blue sky at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Their mission was cut short that day, but their legacy of exploration and discovery lives on.
Honor that legacy and those of the Apollo 1 and Columbia astronauts tomorrow during NASA’s Day of Remembrance.
View the special Remembrance Day podcast, and share memories, stories and ways the astronauts inspired you on the Challenger Center Facebook page.
Bring Remembrance Day into the classroom with Challenger Center. The Challenger Center is a network of interactive learning centers created by the family and friends of the Challenger Astronauts. Located around the world, the centers help create positive educational experiences that foster a long-term interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and inspire students to pursue careers in these areas.
Channel your students’ enthusiasm for space exploration into engaging learning experiences with Challenger Center’s in-depth lesson plan archive and online resources, or participate in a Challenger Center Event in your area.

1 Comments on Remember the Challenger: NASA Day of Remembrance
Many are disappointed with President Obama’s proposal. Plans to go back to the moon have been scrapped, and the Constellation program (which was going to replace the Space Shuttle) is also being laid to rest by the NASA budget cuts. To be fair, it takes more than a few payday loans to fund a NASA mission, but space exploration is the expansion of the sciences in perhaps the noblest of fashions. I suppose two wars that haven’t done any good are worth it, and NASA isn’t.
