Dwayne Johnson recently sat down with People Magazine to give some behind the scenes insight into the movie. In TOOTH FAIRY which comes to theaters nationwide January 22nd, Johnson plays “The Tooth Fairy”, also known as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids. When Derek discourages a youngster’s hopes, he’s sentenced to one week’s hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite wings and magic wand.
Johnson spoke to People about becoming the tooth fairy - wings and all:
“On Those Wings – the span was about 8 ft., so I had to turn sideways when walking around people. I really did feel I was flying, being wired and having the wings on. It was a blast!
On Those Tights – When the goal is to make something entertaining, I’m willing to do anything – even wear powder blue tights!”
Pro-skater Ryan Sheckler sat down with Girls Life Magazine to discuss his role. He plays Mick Donnelly, a young hot-shot hockey player on Derek Thompson’s team. Derek and Mick don’t see eye to eye at first; in fact they don’t get along at all which leads to hilarious high jinks once Derek learns to use his various tooth fairy powers.
Ryan Sheckler tells Girls Life:
“GL: Give us the scoop on Mick.
Ryan: He’s an up-and-coming hockey star on his way to the NHL. And The Rock’s character is on one of the teams Mick tries out for. He’s known as the Tooth Fairy [because he knocks out other players’ teeth]. He’s supposed to be the big shot and gets jealous when all of the attention comes to Mick. And that’s when he turns into the actual Tooth Fairy and all the magic happens. It’s really funny.
Any embarrassing moments on the set?
One of the first scenes I had to do required me to bark for almost a minute. I’ve never acted before, so it was really uncomfortable to be in front of everyone just barking. Acting really makes you forget about your reputation. You just have to go out there and have fun.”
