When the Library of Congress’ Exquisite Corpse Adventure began several months ago, it promised to be an exciting, silly and surprising literacy project. So far, it has definitely delivered. Now, the National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance has added another element of surprise: a new author.
If you’re unfamiliar with the project, “an Exquisite Corpse is an old game in which people write a phrase on a sheet of paper, fold it over to conceal part of it and pass it on to the next player to do the same. The game ends when someone finishes the story, which is then read aloud,” {via read.gov}
The NCBLA and the Library of Congress created their own version of this unique game. Over the span of a year, dozens of award-winning authors and illustrators will contribute to the continuing story, writing and revealing one chapter at a time.
To add more fun to the adventure, the NCBLA invites you to play 20 questions to help guess the new author. Every classroom that makes a correct guess will be entered into a drawing to win $500 for its classroom library.
The first set of clues was posted today on the NCBLA website; the answers and the next set will go up Friday 4/2.
You can read the entire Exquisite Corpse Adventure story to date Read.gov.
