Congratulations Katherine Paterson: New National Ambassador of Young People’s Literature!

Paterson, author of Bridge to Terabithia, the book on which Walden’s 2007 film was based, has been appointed the new National Ambassador of Young People’s Literature. Appointed by the Library of Congress and the Children’s Book Council, Ms. Paterson will share her love of reading and literature with readers young and old around the country.

Recently, she told the New York Times: “I want people to be reading about children of other places and other races and religions. I think novels are a wonderful way to do that because you get in somebody else’s psyche and you see things quite differently than the way you see things simply through your own eyes.”

Paterson replaces author Jon Scieszka; under his ambassadorship, he created several unique and fun programs including the Exquisite Corpse Adventure and the Guys Read Tour.

Ms. Paterson’s unique voice and spirit moved us at Walden with Bridge to Terabithia, and we look forward her new ideas and initiatives as Ambassador. Good Luck!

In honor of the appointment, the first 5 readers to send an email to: info@walden.com will receive a BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA PRIZE PACK including a DVD of the film, a copy of Ms. Paterson’s novel, and an activity poster.

(Offer is on a first-come, first-served basis, and open only to legal residents of the United States. Must be 18 years or older to enter. Limit 1 per household.)
