Award-Winning Musician Melissa Green Bridges the Gap between Music and Education

Award-winning musician Melissa Green began her music career as a preschool teacher – inspired by her energetic, bright students, she learned to play the guitar and began to write her own songs to sing with them.

Seven years later, she’s established a name for herself as a musician for families. Blending her knowledge of early childhood development with her amazing voice and writing skills, she engages and entertains young minds.

Melissa turned her John Lennon Songwriting Award song, The Seahorse Song, into a sing-a-long picture book to help make a tangible connection between numbers, letters and music. She noticed early on that countdown songs keep children interested and are easy to follow. Illustrator Lois Keller used vibrant watercolors while the rhyming lyrics and a catchy melody take each child on a journey through the ocean and will have them reading, singing and dancing along.

Located in Los Angeles, Melissa started Green Circle Music, and teaches in various area schools, plays at book stores and concert venues, and has created her own brand of music sing-a-long classes hosted at people’s homes. Each class is driven by the interests of the children (ages 0-5) in the group, focusing on building confidence, respect for others and overall music appreciation – three skills that Melissa thinks are important to develop at a young age.
