It’s happened before: you log on to Facebook to find that acquaintance from high school has over-shared again. We really didn’t need to see how much fun he had out on the town the previous night. While everyone has a friend on Facebook like this, it can make you wonder how the rest of the social networking world sees you.
With over 300 million users on the site and about 30% of employers using Facebook to vet potential employees, it’s important to know how to control your personal information, and teach your kids about the importance of monitoring their information.
The New York Times recently posted a great article with five very easy steps to stay safe on Facebook. We’ve excerpted the 5 steps here, but the article has step by step directions to implement these great privacy protections:
